Bergen County is subject to blue laws, which restrict shopping on Sunday. The long-standing blue laws prohibit the sale of clothing, furniture and electric appliances on that day, leaving malls and most stores closed on Sunday. Basics such as grocery stores, convenience stores, gas stations, and restaurants are open. For other needs, shoppers head to nearby New York City, Rockland County, New York and other North Jersey counties, where stores are open on Sunday.
