Old Tappan is a borough in
northeast Bergen County incorporated from portions of Harrington
Township in 1894. A quiet character, excellent schools, and strong
civic spirit mark Old Tappan, where residents enjoy plentiful

In the late 17th century, the New York governor Thomas Dongan
granted the area that would become Old Tappan to thirteen Dutchmen
and three African Americans. The Tappan patent, as it was called,

Private bus service provided by Red and Tan Bus Lines travels from Old Tappan
to Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan, taking just under one hour.

Westwood and Hillsdale. MTA Metro-North Railroad service can be found across
the Tappan Zee Bridge from Old Tappan in Tarrytown, New York. The trip to New
York City takes about 35 minutes.

International, JFK International and La Guardia Airport, can be reached in under
45 minutes by car.
Ferry riders can reach 39th Street in Manhattan from a departure point in Edgewater

furniture and electronic appliances and leave most malls and stores, except for
basics like gas, groceries and restaurants, closed on Sundays.
Some dining is available in Old Tappan, with options that include family style
restaurants and American cuisine. In the nearby town of Closter, a wide array
