Englewood Cliffs is a small,
affluent community to the east of Englewood in Bergen County,
situated on the Palisades north of Fort Lee and a five minutes’ drive
from the George Washington Bridge. The town is known as the home
of CNBC, the satellite and cable television business news channel,
and the North American headquarters of Unilever, the multinational
corporation, and the sports car companies, Ferrari and Maserati.
Many Asian-American communities live in Englewood Cliffs, where
the population claiming Korean ancestry on the 2000 Census was
11.76%, the tenth highest percentage in the United States. Residents
of Chinese ancestry comprise 8.42% of the population. The town
also claims the eighth highest percentage of Armenian Americans
in the United States, at 3.4%.
Despite its high corporate profile and great diversity, the town
of Englewood Cliffs is quiet, with most schools, services, recreational

through eighth grade. Students attend the public high school
in nearby Englewood, or other public and private options available
in Englewood and surrounding towns.

The Academies at Englewood is a magnet public high school established in 2002
that offers five academies for students of exceptional merit in Bergen County.
The five focuses are Law and Public Safety, Information Systems, Pre-Engineering

Englewood Cliffs high school students also may apply on a competitive basis to
attend the public Bergen County Technical High Schools in Teterboro and Paramus
and Bergen County Academies in Hackensack. The latter includes seven magnet high
school programs, each featuring a different career focus. Businessweek magazine
has rated Bergen County Academies as the best high school in New Jersey.
Private and religious schools also serve Englewood Cliffs students in preschool

Englewood Cliffs Transportation and Commute:
Englewood Cliffs is accessible from U.S. Route 9W, the Palisades Parkway and
County Route 505. A scenic drive also exists along Henry Hudson Drive at the
Palisades Interstate Park.
New Jersey Transit and private bus companies provide service from Englewood Cliffs
to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan and the George Washington
Bridge Bus Terminal in an average of 35 minutes.
There is no train service between Englewood Cliffs and Manhattan.
Three major airports – Newark Liberty International, JFK International
and La Guardia Airport – are within 45 minutes’ driving distance
of Englewood Cliffs.

Flat Rock Brook Nature Center, a 150-acre preserve and environmental
education center on the western slope of the Palisades in Englewood,
New Jersey, contains what remains of the Palisades Forest. This
natural woodland preserve is managed by the nonprofit Flat Rock
Brook Nature Association.
Tenafly Public Library is a member of the Bergen County Cooperative
Library System. It offers access to over 80,000 books, DVDs and
other multimedia, as well as children’s programs, group
discussions and art exhibitions.
The Tenafly Nature Center offers hiking trails, a lake and plants
on display year round.
The Bergen Family Center, founded by the Woman’s Club of
Englewood in 1898, is the oldest continuously operating family
service agency in Bergen County. It serves 5,000 clients in the
local area with programs that offer support for the entire family.
The Jewish Community Center in Tenafly is one of the largest
in the county, with many cultural and sports offerings for young
people and families in Bergen County. Indoor and outdoor swimming
pools are available, in addition to tennis, racquetball and squash
courts, gyms, an indoor track and fitness center. Kids can enroll
in nursery school, after school programming, summer camps and
year round sports programs.
Englewood Cliffs Entertainment:
Englewood Cliffs offers some stores for convenience, but many shoppers head to
Downtown Englewood nearby to enjoy more than 360 retail stores and delicious
restaurants. More than 1,000,000 square feet of retail space provides room for
nationally known retailers and chains and unique, independent stores in Englewood.
The shopping district and food selections draw customers throughout the New York
Restaurants in Englewood Cliffs include fine dining and family style establishments
for American cuisine, Italian and Mexican food. Nearby Englewood offers many
more restaurants, including ethnic eateries serving West Indian, Greek, Japanese,
Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Colombian food.
